The Brecon to Cardiff Races are 3 winter races, each with a choice of distance and terrain that will offer a great start to the year and a chance to participate in an event now in its twelfth year!

The Brecon to Cardiff Xtreme and Brecon to Cardiff Classic both start in the heart of Brecon at the Theatre Brycheiniog, and both finish in the Coleg Y Cymoedd in Nantgarw.  That is where the similarities end!  The Classic route follows the Taff Trail and is a fast runnable route taking in hard pack trails at the start before picking up cycle path routes from the halfway point onwards.  It is an ever popular choice for people looking to take on their first Ultra at this distance.

The Brecon to Cardiff Xtreme is a much more demanding route and features rough terrain, big climbs and everything the welsh weather can throw at you!  It heads over the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) main range before dropping into Merthyr and the halfway point.  From here is is back into the Llanwonno Forest and the surprising ascents and descents that make up the Welsh valleys.  This is an ideal race for those looking for a challenge!

The Marathon X, new for 2026, is the second half of the Xtreme course.  Starting at Merthyr and following the Xtreme route back to Nantgarw it also takes in the forest and hills of the South Wales valleys.  Shorter it may be, but it still packs a lot of trails into the marathon distance!
